Please note that, since the onset of the pandemic, we are no longer dancing at Trinity United Methodist Church. Our new location is the Dorothea Laub Dance Place, 2650 Truxton Road, Studio 200, San Diego, CA 92106. We have tentatively scheduled a number of dances through August 6, 2022; please see the schedule below. For the time being, our dances are held on the first Saturday of each month, with exceptions as noted. Admission is still $10, but we will gladly accept larger amounts to help offset our costs since we last danced. We also accept payment by Venmo; check for details at the door.

We require that dancers observe certain protocols in the effort to prevent the spread of COVID. The protocols are outlined in this section below.

Special Events

Guest caller and guest musicians, Saturday, July 2! Please join us for a special treat at the Dorothea Laub Dance Space on Saturday, July 2 from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m., with a beginners' session at 7 p.m. Frannie Marr will co-call the dance with Jacqui Grennan, who hails from Los Angeles and has called several dances for us in recent years, including New Year's Eve dances. Jacqui is widely regarded for her cohesive programming and vibrant, engaging calling style. Our guest musicians, Stepwise, also call Los Angeles their home. Stepwise is a traditional Celtic folk duo consisting of Liam Lewis (mandolin, guitar, fiddle, voice) and Olivia Breidenthal (fiddle and voice). They perform a mixture of traditional Irish songs with tight vocal harmonies and traditional Irish tune sets. Admission is on a sliding scale of $10 to $25. There's plenty of parking just across the street from the Dorothea Laub Dance Space. Please be aware that the dance surface isn't what we're used to, so we now need to forbid all high-heeled shoes as well as hard-soled shoes.

COVID PROTOCOLS: At this time, we are only allowing fully vaccinated people to attend the dance (either two Moderna or Pfizer shots or one Johnson and Johnson). Additionally, we expect dancers who finished their vaccinations more than six months ago to have received a booster shot. We are requiring proof of vaccination status. Our preference is that you email us a photo of your vaccination card; we will then put you on a list as having proven your status and delete the photo of the card. You can also bring your card or a photo of your card to the dance or show us your vaccination card in the official Health app. It is now possible to find same-day booster shots via the San Diego County vaccination website.

If you feel that you are in a special situation that necessitates some different vaccination status, we will connect you with a family practice doctor who is one of our dancers and who will be happy to discuss this with you.

We will also require everyone to wear a well-fitting mask; that is, the mask has to stay over your mouth and nose while you are dancing. A generous dancer has donated some high quality masks that will be available at the door if needed. We prefer that you use a good quality (K)N94/95 mask rather than a cloth mask—we have found these to generally be more comfortable as well as easier to be active in.

We want to make sure that all dancers understand that, despite the mitigation efforts we are making, there continues to be some risk in dancing. Therefore, we are going to ask everyone to sign a waiver saying that they do understand this. The waiver is available here. We encourage you to print out the waiver, sign it, and bring it with you to the dance, but we will also have copies at the dance.
